"To a non-engineer, even an incredibly smart person, this is absolutely non-obvious." I had people at work who just assumed that we IT people can track everything they've done and read their emails anytime we wanted. I was a bit taken aback that they just blindly trusted like that, and explained that we have policies and don't do anything like that.
