I am on a Moto X, but also had a Moto G as a backup phone. If you want to do basic stuff (call, e-mail, calendar, IM), the G is easily fast enough and can be had for little. (The only problematic app seems to be Facebook, which is a bit hard on the 1GB RAM.)
