Just overheard a funny conversation between two engineers
Was just walking back from lunch and overheard this:
Engineer #1: "Someone asked me for a restaurant recommendation in Boston. I've never been to Boston, so I did what I always do... I just looked it up on Yelp and told her the top result. Then she checked Yelp and said 'OMG! Yelp agrees with you!'"
Engineer #2: "You're an API, man. A natural language processing API."
- davismwfl 11y agoGood stuff. The real irony, they both probably missed the point that she used that as an excuse to talk/flirt with him.
- ender89 11y agoNo one said it was a self-aware api.
- Nadya 11y agoPeople do that?
- GuiA 11y agoI mean, it's a possibility, but "probably" seems a little strong. Your post does remind me of my favorite engineer joke: Two engineering students were walking across campus when one said, "Where did you get such a great bike?" The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, "Take what you want." The second engineer nodded approvingly, "Good choice; the clothes probably wouldn't have fit."
- davismwfl 11y agoFair. That joke is awesome, don't ever remember hearing that one.
- Jack000 11y agoIf this was real life I'd take the bike too. I mean, something like that actually happening would seem pretty suspicious. I'd think it was a candid camera thing or a pretext to lure me somewhere to rob me.

- mcveat 11y agoNot API but protein interface to yelp
- JadeNB 11y agoIndeed, "application protein interface".
- tonteldoos 11y agoWetware API?
