Group SMS experiment
A group of friends,14 of us, decided a trip to Vegas for a bachelor party. Since I've ventured to Vegas multiple times with a group larger than 4, I knew what communication problems could occur.
For reasons I won't get into detail, I chose SMS because group messaging apps all have their flaws and SMS is simple and everyone has it.
I decided to spend a weekend writing a little twilio sms service that relayed incoming messages to all group members.
To join the group you text JOIN Mike Smith to the number. I had other commands to ignore and leave the group.
It was a big hit, It saved time, everyone was able to keep in touch. It ended up working better than expected.
In total on a 3 night trip 8733 SMS were consumed.
I learned a lot from this experiment and now I want to turn it into a legit service for groups. To start I was thinking sports teams and vacationers where the party size is larger than 4.
I need some advice on how I should market this as a service. How should I try and form partnerships.
Thanks.
