Ask HN: What are the know ways for startups to break through the noise?

I am thinking of starting a job search website/app in a specific vertical and there are a few competitors. though the competitors are none a break through with a massive network effect. i can see one day someone create on site in that specific vertical which everyone would only go there but i cant think of what it takes to make it happen.
