As someone who's been learning the violin for the past year and a half, I completely agree that one can pick up the violin as an adult. One of the first things I did was to get a teacher to guide me through it, and that has helped enormously. While I do like western classical music, I find compositions from modern Japanese composers such as Joe Hiashi much more fun to play.
