I agree that government shouldn't build roads.
Only private companies should build roads, and drivers need to pay tolls wherever they go.
Government shouldn't be in the business of propping up failed, unprofitable infrastructure projects, like roads.
If people don't want to pay for roads, then it shouldn't be built.
- agumonkey 11y agoIrony ? some things are better stable, even at loss. Private endeavors might fail and roads decline while some other company is trying to grab the pieces. This kind of waves are bad like hypertension, propagating damages around, businesses depending on roads are now endangered.
- webjprgm 11y agoGovernment is just as unstable. Doesn't the OP say that trains were better funded in the past than now, and other posters have said the same about Federal interstates? The political climate changes so funding for projects change.
- mindcrime 11y agoIf people don't want to pay for roads, then it shouldn't be built. Sarcasm duly noted, but I agree with this sentiment 100%
- mozumder 11y agoCountries shouldn't exist if they aren't profitable. Weak people should be eliminated. Government shouldn't be in the business of providing for their protection and safety. There is no inherent right to defense. The world is only meant for the strong.
- mindcrime 11y agoCountries shouldn't exist if they aren't profitable. Well, personally I'd argue against the existence of "countries" as we know them today anyway. Voluntarily assembled, organized mutual defense entities, yes. But "nation states" with all these borders, and boundaries, and rules, and regulations, and controls? I say "give 'em the axe".
- mozumder 11y ago> Well, personally I'd argue against the existence of "countries" as we know them today anyway. Voluntarily assembled, organized mutual defense entities, yes. So.. countries then?
- mindcrime 11y agoI guess you either missed, or chose to ignore, the "as we know them today" part of that? Countries today do a lot more than just self defense. So to answer your question - "no".
- a8da6b0c91d 11y ago> drivers need to pay tolls wherever they go. What would you say to this proposal: triple the gas tax or institute a property tax on vehicles so that the roads are fully funded by users.
