As, @NathanKP said, there's the gun debate, but there's also copyright (and other IP) debate as well, which I feel is far more dangerous to the technology because there is a lot more money behind that and seriously entrenched interests. Instead of looking at it as a licensing opportunity, they are doing the same as music industry did with every new recording medium that came about.
