I often get asked "How many Board members is the right number?" My standard response is that "an odd number is required, and 3 is too many." That's the kickoff point for explaining that the right question isn't "How many?", it's "Who?" Who is right for your Board? I agree with sama that an even number isn't usually an issue if it's the right people.
