The driver is not the problem of cars.
It is the fact that in average 1,5 t and 10 m2 are used to transport 100 kg and 1 m2.
Driverlessness does not change the bad physics of car transportation decisively.
- branchan 11y agoThat's not the problem it is trying to solve. The problem description is: drivers cause accidents.
- holri 11y agoA technology that solves the wrong problem is doomed to die.
- thrownaway2424 11y agoIt sorta kinda might, if the cars have high utilization and don't need to park at their passengers' destinations.
- holri 11y agoThere is already working car sharing. No driverlessness needed.
- thrownaway2424 11y agoOne-way? Even with a car share you have to park it at the other end, right?
- holri 11y ago100 % driving utilization for driver less cars seems unrealistic. No?
- sparkzilla 11y agoThe solution is driverless motorbikes
- notatoad 11y agoEven worse than that inefficiency is that for most cars, for 22+ hours per day, they are a 1.5T 10m2 beast thats doing absolutely nothing but taking up space. On a big slab of asphalt that we've poured just so it can sit there. Self driving cars might not be more compact, but if they can keep themselves occupied for a higher percentage of the day they can be a big win for efficiency.
