Are hobbies and child-rearing really that much different? Hobbies can be just as time consuming and expensive. Some hobbies can interfere with work in a long term way just like maternity leave. Really the similarity only falls part that maternity is sometimes not a choice... and I'd rather not open the can of worms that is abortion; let's just assume that just like a hobby, you have chosen this path.
