Agreed. Throwing more and more GPUs at the problem in order to eek a couple more percent out on ImageNet is never, ever going to lead to the sort of AI that most people associate with that term. My takeaway from the past 5 years of deep learning is: ANNs can store a ton of patterns. Which makes them incredible useful for certain things, but AI it AIn't.
