Before you do anything, please look into this kid's (?) mental state and try to gauge how hypersensitive he may be to being critiqued. As you said, he's a newly hired coworker. I think the last thing he wants is to be "outed". If I were you, I'd offer some explanation as to why you want to reject it, and then offer to start him on the correct path.
