What's a trend? It'd be awesome if the market shifted this way but I think it's going to take a few product cycles to really happen. Have you seen any market research that's pointing to it happening sooner? To my eye, it looks like the manufacturer answer is to have large phones plus an additional "smart watch". Personally, I would love a revamped "Droid 1". I'm really craving the rugged metal chassis, h/w slide keyboard, and small size. Unfortunately, each of those is exactly what drives up cost. Premium materials, moving parts, and miniaturization/layout are where the money goes.
