For the Python test, why not use csv module instead?

Or at least use an existing CSV-mangling library. Having said that, I think your comment is to the point, one of the reason I use python a lot is because of its libraries. I once decided to use OCaml to solve a performance issue, and was surprise by the lack of librairies for what seemed common in more modern languages (even with opam).
