Lots of good advice here. I myself don't have any advice, but I'd like to pass one that I got from a ridiculously smart engineer few years ago. He told me to "learn something of everything and everything of something" - what he meant was, have a broad knowledge of many many topics (breadth) plus deep knowledge of a few topics (depth)
