And not being confined to a walled garden ... so while a future in which root is not used is terrific, a future in which root does not belong to the user is terrifying ...

With "Trusted Computing" being root is not sufficient to own your device.

I would agree that root being an option is a huge win for consumers but I still believe that root not being the default is good for computing as a whole.
