I've found quite a bit of convergence when it comes to skepticism, realism, pragmatism, criticism, and like qualities. Where HN differs the most to me is the lack of jokes or comments that really aren't directly related to the post. On Reddit, jokes, in-references, and memes are often very highly upvoted. On HN, that seems to be frowned upon and downvoted quickly.
