Just write to /mnt (150GB ramdrive on the small instance) then occasionally sync to an EBS volume. That'll probably give you the best I/O.

- jotto 17y ago/mnt is not a ram drive, it's ephemeral hard disk, and EBS has better IO than the /mnt. You only get 1.7GB RAM on the small instance.
