Does anyone know how accurate the below is and are they talking VMs or physical machines here?
"As of April 2015, DigitalOcean was the third largest hosting company in the world backed by 154,000 Web-facing computers..."

- arthurcolle 12y agoIt is inconceivable to me that those are physical machines but with the new investment I could be wrong. http://techcrunch.com/2014/03/06/digitalocean-raises-37-million-from-andreessen-horowitz/ http://techcrunch.com/2014/03/06/digitalocean-raises-37-mill... Edit: I missed the most recent round of investment. Looks like they've raised roughly $90M in 2014. Impressive indeed http://www.forbes.com/sites/benkepes/2014/12/09/digitalocean-raises-50m-but-even-that-cant-explain-the-growth/ http://www.forbes.com/sites/benkepes/2014/12/09/digitalocean...
- growthape 12y agoDigitalOcean is indeed one of the most promising cloud companies ever. In a very less time they have built a great reputation among developers. People are building companies on their infrastructure. One example is Cloudways.
- erentz 12y agoIt's inconceivable to me too. Must be VMs which would make their physical footprint pretty small.
- mattpavelle 12y agoJust thinking/typing out loud here: The've raised ~$92M (https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/digitalocean https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/digitalocean) so 92,000,000/154,000 ~= $600/"machine" if it's a physical machine and they spent almost their fundraising on hardware. Seems like spending almost all of your fundraising on hardware could happen for a cloud computing company. So could be 154,000 physical machines?
- blackoil 12y agoMust be VMs, not physical machine
- simonebrunozzi 12y agoIt is VMs, not physical machines.
