It was a poor example. Does the fall of Rome prove that republics/democracies suck? Does Chernobyl and Fukushima prove nuclear power sucks? Electric cars, smartphones, personal computers, there are so many things that sucked before someone figured out how to get things right. There's always more than one factor in play, and there are many arguments to be made on the viability of Communism, perhaps it was just ahead of its time.
