Twitter now allows anyone to send you a direct message
- Angostura 11y agoPerhaps it would be more accurate to say that you can now opt to be able to receive Direct Messages from anyone. I can see how this would be useful to companies who would like to make Twitter their primary customer support channel, for example.
- nabaraz 11y agoHow is it useful to anyone? Popular people (or one with lot of followers) will get swarmed with messages(mostly spam).
- DrJosiah 11y ago...and unpopular people will get private nastygrams. Thankfully, the setting is disabled by default.
- andrewSC 11y agoHooray for sane defaults!
- matthewowen 11y agoFor brands who provide customer support on Twitter, this is a useful way to help collect sensitive information or transition to alternative channels without the brand having to follow the customer back. "I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble! If you'd like to DM us your contact information we can help resolve your problem" etc etc
- wingerlang 11y agoI will activate it because I don't like to follow people on twitter, too much noise, and I'm tired of redirecting them to my email.
