I remember friends and I doing similar pranks while in high school ~15 years ago - it annoyed the computer administrators, but it was generally regarded as benign. We were considered some of the best behaved kids in the school district too (didn't get in trouble, went to class, did our schoolwork, etc.) - charging a kid a felony for this harmless act is ridiculous, there is no reason to punish the kid for something like this period.
