I work with Codementor (https://www.codementor.io/ https://www.codementor.io/), which provides on-demand developer mentorship for a fee. I've worked with a few dozen developers in the last few months. Many are a la carte engagements, wanting help with very specific problems or code reviews. Others are long-term recurring engagements where we meet regularly (one or more times a week) or irregularly (to work through whatever issues crop up). Some are professional developers; others are students/just getting started. I have an obvious vested interest, but the customers seem happy; both in reviews of our sessions and in direct feedback, they say I'm helping them up-level their code, techniques, and understanding. That seems exactly what a mentor should be.
