The main selling point for me is the potential speed of improvement. Young or not, Atom's well publicised and open sourced nature is much more likely to overtake Sublime in the long term.
- sandstrom 11y agoI think people underestimate this. Yes, Atom is quite slow. But probably won't remain slow forever. And with the open source structure I think it will receive a great deal of contributions (languages, plugins, etc). I think over 2-3 years this will be very hard to compete with.
- ahuth 11y agoGreat points. At least for me, though, Atom isn't slow at all. Other than start up (which takes a couple seconds), I never experience any slowness or perception of slowness. Not even while searching through a gigantic project.
- galfarragem 11y agoMaking it simple: I'm a Sublime user but as soon as Atom gets as fast as Sublime, I will be very happy to switch. Atom has a lot of advantages over Sublime (from a front-end developer point of view): open-source and javascript (coffeescript) based. But for now I prefer Sublime.
