Ask HN: Is Amazon Violating Net Neutrality with Whispernet?
Amazon Whispernet[0] lets you access Amazon store and few other sites for free on Amazon Kindle. In India, they are tied up with Vodafone for free 3G service. Is it violation of Net Neutrality?
If it's not violation of NN, then what is stopping Facebook to come up with their own mobile device or tie up with handset manufacturers and launch Internet.Org with that? You can a buy cheap Internet enabled mobile for ~$50 in India(no contract), so Facebook can give such mobile devices for free or sell at very discounted price.

- benologist 12y agoIn theory yes, but in practice the kindle's not a general purpose browser device - it's got a slow cpu and the rest of the hardware also provides an incomplete internet experience with no sound, color or camera.
