I wonder whether the writer has just upgraded to Ubuntu 15.04, or perhaps an equivalent other Linux system. I have tried Atom on 14.04 and 14.10, and found as he says a really bad lag just in simple text input. On a middling windows machine it runs very smoothly, just like any other text editor. Apparently the issue is gone in 15.04. I wonder how much of the discussion about Atom has been affected by this bug.
