I see a problem with this when ppl. who are not scientifically trained use the same metaphor or get this presented by science journalism as it is "pushing" them into wrong 'beliefs' about intentionality of non conscious matter. Most of the time your kind of descriptions of the "how" are not presented thus ppl. mis-conceptualize. Sometimes I think it would be best science used its very own language partly like Latin in medicine is used.
