Building a raspberry pi into a laptop
Hey, I had this kinda crazy idea when I saw a friend log in remotely to his PI using X-server. Programs would run on the pi, and he would see them on his laptop.
I had this idea of, what if I build a raspberry pi 2 into my laptop. Not like any other pi-top project. I'll have a hybrid intel/pi laptop. I can use it to do Linux-stuff, have a portable gpio prototyping thing, I can host some local webservers, use it as a build server or
My laptop has a cd-drive that I've never used, people suggested me to put an SSD in there, no way, I'm getting a separate computer instead :D
What are your thoughts on this? What would you do with a second computer inside your laptop? Just wondering...

- CyberFonic 12y agoI have a couple of old laptops. So when I saw your post, I thought about pulling out the old motherboard, etc and installing a Raspberry Pi 2 in its place. Might be tricky to get the old LCD to work correctly. Has anybody successfully got this sort of re-engineering working?
- undersuit 12y agoA number of people have been successful with the DSI connector on the Pi, but the monitors you can use are radically different that what you'd find in a laptop. http://elinux.org/RPi_Screens#Interfacing_to_non-monitor_LCD_panels http://elinux.org/RPi_Screens#Interfacing_to_non-monitor_LCD... Oh and there is a HDMI to LVDS breakout board floating around somewhere.
- vsakos 12y agoI myself don't have experience with this, but a friend of mine tried to revive a ZX Spectrum with a RasPi 1. As far as I remember he had trouble connecting te ZX keyboard to the Raspi.
- camhenlin 12y agoI installed a Raspberry Pi and an LCD with a battery in inside of an old Mac Plus. That's kind of a laptop right? http://i.imgur.com/ID7chQk.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ID7chQk.jpg
- more_corn 12y agoCounts! My Mac SE at least had a handle and optional carrying case (which I sadly didn't have). I think they were originally advertised as portable.
