The Quest to Push a Human-Powered Bike to 90 MPH
- frik 12y agoInteresting. A question about the article style: is there a new trend about extra long articles?
- dagw 12y agoIt seems to be a general backlash against the buzzfeed style listicles. Ironically even buzzfeed seems to be trying out more longform articles.
- petercooper 12y agoFWIW, it's about 3090 words. For a feature article from a magazine, that's reasonably typical - it just looks long on the Web.
- s0rce 12y agoI would much prefer it to be page based instead of scroll based. Feels more like reading a book and easier to follow.
- ourmandave 12y agoI prefer the long style so I can cut-n-paste the text into Notepad++ all at once instead of 7 or 8 pages. Then I can save it to read later, control the text size and width, and not go insane from blinking ads in my peripheral visiion.
- petercooper 12y agoLast year, Guy Martin set the British cycle speed record of 112mph. Article at http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest-news/guy-martins-record-breaking-rourke-speed-bike-118329 http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest-news/guy-martins-... and a very brief video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT0eJXtrwHg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT0eJXtrwHg - the rules are somewhat different to this other attempt though!
- ghubbard 12y agoClarification: For the British record he was drafting behind a truck.
- rorykoehler 12y agoOn a similar but even more nuts note, Ricky Crompton (slopestyle rider) is planning to break the longest backflip world record in Belfast this year. He wants Guy Martin to tow him into the ramp at around 70mph. He will be doing this as part of his upcoming TV series "Selfmade".
- jbrooksuk 12y agoI'm seriously in love with Guy Martin and watched that episode. I happen to live just a few minutes away from Rourke, who helped make the bike for Guy. Jason and his team are amazing people if you're looking for bike advice.
- kephra 12y agoshameless plug A fellow sailor made the following video showing his velomobil in normal day traffic in a suburb of Cologne Germany. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UNAK8xkpBU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UNAK8xkpBU Topspeed is "only" around 45mph (70km/h).
