Google Helpouts Is Shutting Down April 20, 2015
- systemtheory 12y agofrom the url: "Why is Helpouts shutting down? The Helpouts community includes some engaged and loyal contributors, but unfortunately, it hasn't grown at the pace we had expected. Sadly, we've made the tough decision to shut down the product." This is exactly what concerns me. That Google only chooses to continue investing in ventures with a certain growth rate has dangerous implications. There are many examples of companies and communities creating value and unique contributions to the world without requiring ongoing rapid growth. There are potentially disastrous consequences should our best and brightest continue to pursue growth over other goals. (i.e. "The Limits to Growth") And qualitatively, niche fields / enterprises are the foundation of diversity, and diversity is the foundation of resilience.
- ghobs91 12y agoI don't get Google sometimes. They repeatedly launch a product with a ton of potential, don't market it whatsoever, then shut it down due to lack of growth or inactivity. Where's the logic there?
