Karma isn't a reward.

  Totally agree. I see no reason why there needs to be a count of how much karma one has collected. I like being able to see upvote and downvote counts for individual comments and posts, but I need not know how much I've accumulated, and I'll say that I think it's detrimental to any given online community.
