Congrats on you not having a clue what git is.
- worklogin 12y agoConsider how you'd phrase it if your comrade were standing next to you instead of being on the Internet. I understand your point that git is git. The code wouldn't be lost. But it would be an undeniable several months of chaos if Github's servers were wiped. Every project standing up its own site... the open source world would effectively cease development for a short time.
- jackmaney 12y agoNot to mention the companies that use GitHub for hosting their code base in private repos, keeping track of issues, code reviews, etc.

- sfk 12y agoGit has nothing to do with it: A while ago Homakov had an exploit that gave him write privileges to all GitHub repos. It's remarkable that no one really seems to care.
