I've used two amp/cab modelers, GuitarRig, and whatever used to come with the Line6 USB interfaces. I never got sound I liked from GuitarRig and got sounds that were not unreasonable for demo/tinkering purposes from Line6, but I would never put those guitar sounds on an actual release. GuitarRig's modeling of the recording of an AC30, an amp I'm very familiar with, does not come anywhere close to the sounds I can get sticking a microphone in front of my actual AC30.
