Ask HN: Why don't governments defend citizens and corporations from cyber attack?
- angersock 12y agoWhy do you think giving them this power is a good idea? "cyber attack" is a pretty loose term--it runs the gamut from hand-crafted exploits left on USB sticks in attractive areas to people experimenting with curl to just a bunch of people hitting F5 really fast waiting for an update. Many web attacks kinda are identical to legitimate if malformed traffic, so giving the .gov power over that is basically censorship.
