I mentioned the high heels, but I think most womanly things are like that: long hair and long fingernails show not having to work (manually), so high status. Even drinking and smoking could be part of the game (showing off that you are healthy enough to cope with a little poison). Many, many things - signalling theory is essential to understanding our society.
