Yes, Facebook tracks you and complies with government requests in the countries it operates in. Is anything new or is the author just spreading FUD?

- gaadd33 12y agoman ls, on my various servers, doesn't have an AUTHOR section, just HISTORY which says: An ls command appeared in Version 1 AT&T UNIX.
- __david__ 12y agoYou're probably on a Mac, which comes from the BSD heritage. Try "man diff".
- tedunangst 12y agoHISTORY A diff command appeared in Version 6 AT&T UNIX.
- __david__ 12y agoWhich Mac OS version comes with BSD diff?
- tedunangst 12y agoOpenBSD, so, uh, not a Mac. But you asked to try it. :)
- tbirdz 12y agoC'mon Ted, you knew what he meant, there's no reason to be that snarky. For anyone who does not know, __david__ is most likely referring to the GNU coreutils and GNU diffutils, which do indeed credit Richard Stallman in the AUTHOR section, not any BSD, AT&T or other versions of those utilities.
- tedunangst 12y agoThe now deleted comment above, (not by __david___ but the context for this thread), claimed that Stallman wrote all of the software that all of us use. That's not strictly true, for ls nor for diff.
- __david__ 12y agoNo it did not. It claimed he wrote many of the command line tools that we might use on our computers. It used coreutils ls as an example, but without qualifying it perfectly. Then the pedants started responding. :-)
- tsomctl 12y agoLets go to the source: http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/coreutils.git/tree/src/ls.c?id=b30b152bb7cd15a455160516371a01b8bf758ad4#n33 http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/coreutils.git/tree/src/ls.c...
- Sanddancer 12y agoI don't see that in my copy: http://svnweb.freebsd.org/base/releng/10.1/bin/ls/ls.1?revision=272461&view=markup http://svnweb.freebsd.org/base/releng/10.1/bin/ls/ls.1?revis...
