While not really related, I seem to run across a lot of books on Amazon that have a high number of 5 star reviews that, upon reading, are just bad. Seems to happen a lot with books by independent sci-fi authors with Kindle-only books...
Of course, "bad" is just my opinion.
- sombremesa 12y agoStrangely both the cached version and the website only work for me if I hit Chrome's "stop loading" button while they load. Seems to be this JS file's fault: http://blogs.perl.org/users/ovid/mt.js http://blogs.perl.org/users/ovid/mt.js
- dublinben 12y agoDo you leave your own review on those books to counteract the unearned rating?
- impostervt 12y agoUsually yes, but always. I wish Amazon let you just give a star rating, instead of requiring you to add a real comment.
- mcguire 12y agoI'd prefer it the other way around, actually. Forget the rating, maybe just give a thumbs-up/thumbs-down, and require at least a couple of sentences' worth of review. It's fairly easy to ignore a bogus review when you look at it, but the star system makes it too easy to take them at face value.
- tracker1 12y agoI've taken to looking at reviewer's "other" reviews when I see a slew of 1 or 5-star reviews for anything... It becomes pretty obvious which ones are real, or fake. I've come to trust those items with all 4-5 star reviews far less than I used to.
