One hasn't really had time to fully absorb certain "life lessons" until they've had the benefit of years and therefore other additional experiences to provide more contextually relevant information. Consequently advice derived from such immaturity isn't necessarily as meaningful or relevant. I think the parent's glibness is a bit much, though.
