Rich people have always wanted things they can spend money on to show off their wealth. Such things can be divided into several kinds of categories, but in my opinion, the important category division is: 1. Expensive things that make the world a worse place for the rest of us, e.g. mansions that consume city real estate, private jets that burn fossil fuels 2. Expensive things that don't do any harm, and serve as nonviolent, ethical ways to transfer money to people who need it more, e.g. well... fancy watches If you're going to criticize expensive toys for the rich, spend your criticism on things that fall into the first category.
