I'm assuming apple is smart enough to know their gold watch isn't going to win good press (then again any press is good, right?), rather a price anchor for the base model and something to throw so they can be in the same league (at least in price) as serious luxury watches.
- Spearchucker 12y agoI understand your point, but as the owner of a "serious luxury watch" (I've had mine for 15 years) I don't understand the motivation. My watch is a thing of beauty. The Apple Watch maybe cool, but beautiful, in the sense that my watch is, it ain't. A fitness band is useful, and not beautiful. And I can wear that on my other arm, so get the best of both worlds. In this context I do not understand Apple's thinking. It's also why my dev time is spent on the Microsoft Band, and won't be invested in the Apple Watch.
- therobot24 12y agooh for sure, i won't claim to know anything about luxury watches, but there's definitely a connection between an owner and their watch that you won't get with the apple gold.
- pcrh 12y agoThe problem for this watch is that its technology will be outdated in a few years at which point it becomes merely a bit of bling. High end mechanical watches on the other hand are not solely time-keeping devices, but mechanical marvels and one of the few Veblem goods that a man can wear conspicuously.
- dozzie 12y agoActually, most of those watches are built with taste of one sort or another. Apple Watch simply looks dumb in comparison.
