Zach has been an articulate and charismatic voice on a set of nouveau working styles and policies, such as remote work, unlimited vacation and a very high degree of employee self-organization. Without violating anyone's privacy, if that's possible, I would like to know whether these contributed to his firing. I ask simply because I'd like to better understand whether this is a siren song for startups that doesn't scale well. Would he have benefited from more structure, a performance plan, etc.? Does this degree of freedom lead to chaos and arbitrary decisionmaking as a company scales? Hope he writes more about it.
