I left a personal email and webserver running in my parents shed for a few years on an old debian box. It was useful, I keep meaning to set up another one. Personally I think that it is great that a high profile public servant went and ran their own personal server from their house. It suggests a level of competency and it encourages other people to try and set up their own servers from home.
