I've found that produce picked yesterday at the farm up the street tends to last longer than produce that's been trucked from the other side of the US, not to mention the difference in the amount of energy it took to get it to me.
- evgen 12y agoThe produce up the street may have taken less energy, but the produce grown on a small farm 50 miles from you probably required more energy to reach your door than green grapes from the local supermarket shipped in from Chile. Do not discount the efficiency of the modern transportation network.
