Great apes in the wild are generally having a hard time getting along, with humans crowding them out of a lot of their historical territory. I would hope our species doesn't end up like that. Likewise, great apes in zoos definitely have all their important decisions made for them by humans. I don't think I want this, either. The straightforward answer to the FAI question for me has always been thus: we need to enhance our own intelligence to be always equal to or greater than the AIs we create.
