Anecdotally, referring to things that are not typically viewed in a sexual light, as "sexy" (or not), is fairly common parlance. Like so many things, the meaning of the word has evolved with its common usage to become more context dependent ; using it in this setting is perfectly normal. Also - I have to ask (genuinely intrigued) - who is this language supposed to be offending, and why?
