YC companies have been particularly bad at this in my experience. At least 5 times I have replied to job postings on HN, sending my resume and completing puzzles correctly, and not once have I even gotten an acknowledgement. I would love a "sod off" email from a YC company after applying. At the very least, an autoresponder.
