Can anyone explain why OSX apps don't have a maximize button? The full screen button is just terrible.

  Hold 'alt' when you click the green full-screen button and it'll maximize.

    It still doesn't actually maximize, at least for chrome. It just expands vertically not horizontally. I also don't understand why fullscreen is the default. I've never once, ever, actually wanted something to go full screen.

  Press alt while clicking the green button. In general I don't like the window management of OS X - it's a great OS that is (in my mind) mostly let down by bloat ( system apps that take all your CPU or memory) and window management.

  You can also just double click on the title bar.
