Maybe think about moving to a cloud-based machine. My actual work environment (I'm a developer) is up on a server. I ssh in and use the machine from virtually any machine. I can be ready to work in about 5 minutes on a brand new machine. It's basically a screen and a keyboard for me, nothing more. Lessens its importance.
