I've signed up for MOOCs in the past that sounded really cool, because why not?, only later to find that I didn't have the time, or maybe the MOOC wasn't as cool as I thought it was. In cases where there's actually some tangible investment required to sign up--Georgia Tech's OMSCS program[0] is a prime example of this--completion rate is much higher.
